Eastern White-bearded Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus albojubatus), originally uploaded by mikel.hendriks.
In our four wheel drive safari vehicle we were blocking the route of these wildebeest, wildebeests or wildebai inside the Ngorongoro crater (Tanzania
- East Africa).
Some Wildebeest facts:
- their name originates from the Dutch langue and means "wild beast"
- also known as gnus because of their call sound
- a herd of gnu possesses what is known as a "swarm intelligence" (they systematically explore and overcome a obstacle as one)
- is a hooved mammal (antelope)
- live in more densely packed herds than any other large mammal, except for humans :-)
